- Background & Appointments
MD (Medicine, Karolinska Institutet,2002)
PhD (Biochemistry, Royal Institute of Technology 1998)
M.Sci (Chemical Engineering, Royal Institute of Technology, 1990)
JO obtained his PhD at the Department of Biochemistry, KTH in 1998 in the area of gene expression technology. In parallel to studying medicine at Karolinska Institutet, he in 2000 formed a research group at the Department of Biotechnology, KTH, and built up the KTH DNA typing facility. Since 2002 he has held a parallel affiliation as Senior Scientist at the Department of Medicine, Karolinska University Hospital. He is since 2005 part of the Karolinska Biomics Center. Using a combined bioinformatic and molecular genetic approach to identify and characterise the roles of individual genetic variations in gene regulation on a molecular level, genotyping studies have been employed as screening tools to identify clinically relevant pathways. Computational GRID applications have been developed to facilitate large scale proteomic and genetic analyses through distributed computing. Current technology includes array based Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP-chip) to experimentally identify active regulatory regions in cell line model systems.
